I'm writing this post to kill time :)
Here are some ways that I make life doable while staying at the children's hospital with my son.
PUT MEDS/LOCKBOX UP HIGH OR IN A LOCKED CABINET. The nurse or social worker should be able to direct you to the best spot for this.
FIND OUT WHERE THE NEAREST COFFEE POT IS.
#1 Unpack bags and put clothes in drawers, put all bathroom items in the bathroom.
Put stroller and bags in storage out of the way
#2 Rearrange the room to meet your needs. Put down a play mat and toys in an appropriate spot for your child to play on. Move chairs to the area where you will want to sit. Set up laptop, books and writing materials where they will be handy when you have a few minutes to sit.
#3 Get comfortable
#4 Make list of items you will need and questions you have.We always ask for diapers and wipes, toys, paint, and personal care items I didn't lug along or forgot. Bring sticky notes so you can write down your meal order and questions for dr or nurse.
#5 Make Beds-do this early since it might be hard for your little one to adapt to a new sleep area.
#6 Make a schedule, this place can get really boring. Find out what activities are going on and if you dr will allow you to go. Plan to get out for a little while to walk or take a break. Leave your cell number in clear view for staff. Schedule showers and laundry and get a sitter or ask your nurse to watch your child if you need that.
#7 Order meals an hour ahead, have your tray cleared for when the food comes.
#8 Designate a spot for shoes
#9 Wipe everything down with sterilizing wipes after each meal.
#10 Have a bag hanging for laundry
I am hoping we will not have so many visits here in the future, but for now, staying organized is really helping me keep my sanity!
